Artistic value is determined by the artistic community and time. When a work is created a value will be determined by the artistic community. If it is a known, established artist that work might be viewed as being of more value to the world of art. However, if later the artist is revered as one of the greatest artists then the work would be invaluable to the artistic community. The initial value placed on a work of art is often determined by art critics. Sometimes those critics are right in their assessment, and sometimes they are not. Often the artistic value will have an impact on both the monetary value and the social value.
