A very specific type of implied line is line of sight. When one figure within a work of art is looking at another figure or object the participant's attention is drawn to that second figure or object, line of sight occurs within that work of art. It is not the participant's glance, but rather that of the first figure (in the painting) creating an imaginary line to the second figure or object. This is a good way for the artist to direct attention within a work to the focal point. In this painting by Raphael the Virgin Mary is looking at John which draws attention there and John is looking at Jesus - the focal point.
