Monochromatic refers to a painting that features variations of one color. These may be variations in intensity or variations in value. Here is a painting by Pablo Picasso that is monochromatic. Most sculptures that are made from a single medium are also monochromatic, such as this work by Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen. In music, a single instrument with its varieties of colors (timbres) would best represent a monochromatic idea, although referring to music as monochromatic would not be appropriate.
