In the arts, nonrestrictive refers to an attitude taken by the participant to give a work the benefit of the doubt. When viewing works of art it is best to not pass judgment immediately. If an artist designates a work as being art, then the participant should consider it to be art and look for the merit in that work. In some works of art the idea is more relevant than the craftsmanship involved.
