Platform frame construction is a type of skeleton and skin construction that utilizes wood as the frame for the structure and then covers it with a different, usually more aesthetically pleasing material, such as: brick, siding, stone, etcetera. This type of construction is more prevalent in residential construction. It is called platform frame because each level of the house is built separately. This differs from balloon frame construction and reduces the risk of fire spreading rapidly from floor to floor.
