When a sculpture is painted the addition of color is referred to as polychrome. Although any medium can be polychromed, the medium that is most often polychromed is that of wood. Here is an example within The Cathedral of The Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. Don't get polychrome confused with polychromatic.
