This is a concept that assumes that the viewer is willing to accept what they are seeing as being ‘real for the moment’. It is a term that is mostly associated with theater productions and film. One example of willful suspension of disbelief is in the story. If it is a fantasy, then rather than saying that it cannot exist, the participant immerses themselves in the story anyway. Another example is an actor that may play many roles. If the performances are good then the participant accepts that in one he is a scientist, in another he is a Rock musician, and in another he is the president of the United States. Still another example is when the participant sees a set on a stage that loosely resembles a bedroom but accepts it as such in order to embrace the story.
