Aerial perspective is a type of perspective that artists will often use to reproduce the effect that the air has on objects at a great distance. Since this distance is required it is almost exclusively
a technique used in painters that incorporate landscapes in their works. The effect is created by making the objects that appear farther away less distinct, less intense in color, lighter in color, and sometimes cooler in color. These are the attributes used to describe receding colors. In this work by Albert Bierstadt the results can be clearly seen.
