An anachronism is an object that seems to be out of the context of what surrounds it. Usually this refers to something that seems to conflict with what is contemporary. So a modern business man walking through Ancient Greece would be an example. A cowboy with a light sabre would also be an example. In both cases what is in the vernacular conflicts with in one way or another. In the arts this is most often found in architecture with an older building in the middle of an area that has changed architecture styles. However, it can also be found in film, such as A Knight's Tale.
