Within the arts, vernacular has two meanings. The first means that the object, usually architectural, is made from the materials that are at hand. A log cabin would be a good example. The second is a structure that is meant to fit into its surroundings. A street that has homes that have all been made from stone would be in the vernacular. If one of those homes was more modern and made from all glass, it would be out of the vernacular. In some cases this might make that structure an anachronism.
