glossary

Subjectivity refers to appreciation that is not based on facts. Typically, the first reaction a participant has when first looking at a work of art is a subjective one. It could be as simple as 'I like it' or 'I don't like it'. If the work has enough interest for that individual that person may look more objectively at the work to determine what it has that makes it more interesting. But, it is important not to overlook the initial subjective response as it is a valid aspect of appreciation.
