Vantage point refers to the position the artist places the participant when viewing the work. This is the orientation or angle of the subject when the participant is standing in front of the work. The most typical approach is a straight-on, frontal vantage point. In some works the subject is turned so the the participant views that subject from the side. In this work work we see the subject as though we have become Jesus on the cross looking down. In this work we see the subject from slightly below giving Judith a more dominating presence.
Vantage point is very significant in the camera arts. In film, it is called point of view. Also, a low-angle shot and high-angle shot can communicate very specific ideas within a scene.
