This a cinematographic term that refers to either how a moment is captured or defines the technique of how it was captured. Typically a shot is one 'take' with no editing. In some shots the camera does not typically move, such as: close-up, extreme close-up, medium shot, long shot, extreme long shot, establishing shot, low angle shot, high angle shot, etcetera. Other shots involve some amount of camera movement, such as: dolly shot, track shot, pan shot, tilt shot, etcetera. A follow shot is one exception to the idea that it is one take.
